Sigh!

It’s been sometime that I wanted to write this note. However, what kept me away every time is that – why would I bother with these issues? Why would I allow myself to be labeled (by ‘labelers’) as supporter or non-supporter of a certain section of the society? There would be issues I don’t understand and complexities that I won’t comprehend. But as days go by with the situation that’s being created around– I am simply awed at the injustice that a so called democratic country can handle.

Allah Does Not Help a nation who doesn’t help themselves. There are some inherent characteristics that I can see with us (yes we are Bangladeshis – not bangalis. If anyone can claim and feel proud of independence of Bangladesh – and then go on saying Bangla/Bangalis instead of Bangladesh – then that’s utterly hypocritical!):

#1. We bear with lies and don’t use our sense of judging between right & wrong. Allah Has distinguished humans from animals on this very aspect! However, we failed to remain at that level – and stooped to the lowest. Allah Says in the Qur’an: “Surely We created man in the best mould; then We reverted him to the lowest of the low, except those who have faith and do righteous deeds. Theirs is a never ending reward.” [Surah At-Tin: V.4-6].

We have allowed ourselves to be directed by lies. We have not studied (from the right sources) about our roots and our duties. We have forgotten to use our minds and screen information – to come to the right conclusion. We are depending on the media and the most publicized statements to conclude for us. We have become absolute zombies and more than anyone else in this world – we will be the most easily perusable people for propaganda. Even the most educated segment of this society depends on liar leaders of the country to rule their minds.

It’s become absolutely impossible for me to understand (maybe I’m not at that intellectual level) – why people of this country bear with all the crap & lie that’s inserted into their minds and carry that crap & lie with them. Then they start propagating those crap & lie to people around them. I also salute the ones who are bearing with all the crap that’s being imposed on them and May Allah Forgive them.

#2. We have learnt to live with division in society. And the present leaders of this country are becoming a catalyst to the process. How can one claim to the sole owners of independence? The rest of the people of this country were what? Every inch of land of this country has its own debt to pay to even the lowest segments of society (after our Lord) in some way or the other. Can we not keep this small issue in mind?

How can a group label another group as perpetrators and get away with it? (Yes, some people will smell rat here but I don’t care. For those who smell rat, FYI - I’ve never enrolled myself into any political party). Which nation on the face of this earth bears with such stigma? Except the extreme of the extremists, no one can come into terms with the fact that – someone will be stripped of all rights of a citizen just because he/she doesn’t belong to your ideology (if there is any ideology in that!). How can anyone claim the right to kill or persecute just because a person doesn’t belong to a specific group? How can anyone deny the contribution of hundreds of people who have done so much for society? Yes, and that’s what’s going on and we’re learning to live with! May Allah Forgive us.

#3. We have learnt to bear with co-branding anyone following Islam with Extremist, Perpetrators, Hard-liners and Anti-Nation. This is in direct correlation with above #1 & #2. People dare to call out ‘rajakar’ or ‘hujur’ or ‘mollah’ or ‘rog-kata’ (btw, cutting tendons is not that easy a task – let alone branding with it!) to anyone with either a burkha & Niqab or with a beard, whichever applies! I am sorry – but which religion does that stupid caller belong to?

Anything to do with Islam is being negatively branded by the honorable leaders of this country. And we stay mum. If Prophet Muhammad (SA) was standing here where we stand – and no one knew he was the Prophet (SA) himself – they would call out to him in the same way (AstaghfiruLlah). That’s because the practicing Muslims of this time try to resemble him in appearance and try to follow his foot-steps in whatever they do – whether its personal life, economical life, political life or cultural life. I am sure our Prophet (SA) would have a group which would have ‘Islam’ in it and he wasn’t an inactive person who would not want to spread to the society (Duh! He’s was Sent to spread it). What sort of hypocrites have we become that we tend to call ourselves Muslims – and then allow this sort of brand to imprint in our minds? How will we be answerable to Allah?

Any person/group with Islam in their name/stance has been made criminals in this country. However, if we try to judge from a very neutral perspective – have we seen a person, truly religiously dedicated, do more wrong than right? I’ve seen people from such groups (FYI, to those who smell rat again – I have not enrolled myself as member or supporter of any political party). Whether it was in due course of my educational, professional or personal life – I’ve seen them to do more right than wrong. Then why are we allowing this to control our minds? There are brothers and sisters of our country– at this very moment – who are being persecuted for the very reason that they belong to certain groups. They are running from here to there – and it’s not pleasant listening to their experience! There’s a limit to everyone’s patience. On a more psychological perspective – even if one of them (among the hundreds) has his/her patience barrier broken down– does this country know how it will deal with prospects of future-extremism stemming from this sort of persecution? May Allah Grant the ones persecuted -patience at the highest level.

#4. We’ve learned to accept ‘committing crimes and blaming others’. We have forgotten to stand out for the right. We are never fair with the actual criminals of this country. We have learnt to forgive the criminal acts going on infront of our very eyes and accepting the blame-games. This country has become the powerhouse of slander, the powerhouse of fraud and the powerhouse of blame-games. All three can be summed into one word – lies (#1). Combined with the above #1, #2 & #3 – we are one heck of a country! How can a country stand as a nation with this attribute? It seems the education level of this country is going up. So is the GDP growth. The lifestyle is changing and we are ‘developing’. However, what’s the use? We are so proud of our independence – but as human beings (let alone Muslims) where have we reached? The lowest of the low! We are that incapable? We have failed our intellects and our sense of judgment.

We have failed this nation and the people of this country who are striving for a better society. Most important of all – we have failed to be the best of creations. What have we done in our short life-span if we are guilty of one or all of the above characteristics? May Allah Help us revert to the right path.

Shahr bin Haushab (Allah be pleased with him) relates that he asked Hadhrat Umm-Salamah (Allah be pleased with her): O Ummul-Mu’mineen (Mother of the Believers)! What was the supplication made most often by the Messenger of Allah (SAW) when he used to be in your house? She said: He most often used to supplicate: Ya muqallib al Quloob, thabbit qalbee alaa deenik (O turner of the hearts, establish my heart upon your deen). Ameen.
